For six select dates we were given the opportunity to spend one hour in the classroom teaching 6th grade students basic business principals. Using television broadcast television as the business model, as often as possible, it gave us the opportunity to give these young people a better understanding for the industry, some of the careers available and the education needed.

KTTW will give a total of eight 15-minute presentations to numerous area students at the 2011 Career Expo. A power point presentation was given followed by Q & A. The primary focus was to convey what happens at a television station, describe the various positions available and what employee does on a daily basis.

As of June 13, 2011 KTTW offered and executed an internship opportunity to Adam Veurink (a Junior at the University of Sioux Falls). Adam's primary responsibilities were to assist the Production Department in the making of in-house promotional spots, script writing and client based commercials. In order to obtain his internship accreditation Mr. Veurink may also be asked to shoot public sporting events, local landmarks and assist the Marketing Department with graphic and web based materials.

Two staff members of KTTW gave tours of the facility as a Field Trip for the entire miscelanous troops from the Dakota Horizon Girl Scouts. The four areas of emphasis was the Sales, Traffic, Production and Master Control Departments. A Question & Answer period followed each session as the students rotated through each department. The primary focus was to convey what happens at a television station, describe the various positions available and what an employee does on a daily basis here at KTTW Fox 7.
